Ralph Lauren Polo Red - Hit or Miss?
A Jonathan Black ReviewSo I have to admit when it comes to Ralph Lauren fragrances. I'm kind of biased because I honestly think it's a rare exception for them to come out with one that isn't a hit or that I don't at least enjoy the scent of.
Ralph Lauren Polo Red is no exception. I received the bottle in my mailbox and was very excited to open and try it out as I am with any new fragrance. My first impression was somewhat surprised.
I thought the fragrance itself was a little overly sweet for my taste. It had a somewhat fruity scent that I did enjoy, but it wasn't something I could see myself wearing day in and day out as a signature fragrance for my needs or style.
That said, I did think it smelled nice. It has a fresh and sweet ripened fruit hint to it. That made me understand why the bottle was red. It reminded me of fresh fruit, ripe and ready to be picked.
The only criticism I really have of this perfume is that it doesn't last very long. The insert information from the brand regarding the fragrance and all of the hype around it suggest that it is a long lasting lingering fragrance that will keep its scent well throughout the whole day.
I didn't find that to be true at all. In fact, I noticed the first few times of applying that using my usual amount - and the well-known proven theory it was fragrance that less is more and you can always add but never take away - I noticed it didn't last as long as I wanted it to. It seemed within 90 minutes to 2 hours it was practically gone completely. Within 1 hour I noticed the level of intensity in the fragrance dropped at least 75%.
I suppose it's not a bad thing if that's what you're looking for, but for me I just didn't understand the fragrance enough for it to be a part of my permanent collection. I would recommend it to somebody else who's looking for something subtle and fruity.
In my eyes I would say that Ralph Lauren once again has a hit. It just might not be the one I was hoping for.
